Samper set to leave Barcelona

The midfielder is set to leave the Camp Nou

Barcelona confirmed on Monday they have agreed to cancel Sergi Samper’s contract, with the midfielder set to leave the club.

Samper will hold a press conference on Tuesday where we’ll hear from the player who is expected to head to Japan to join Vissel Kobe.

The 24-year-old has been at Barca since the age of six, but he’ll now leave the Camp Nou for a new challenge.

“FC Barcelona and Sergi Samper have reached an agreement for the cancellation of the player’s contract with the Club.

“The player will appear in a final press conference Tuesday, 5 March at 1.00pm CET at the Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper.

“The club publically would like to thank Sergi Samper for his dedication and commitment during his time at FC Barcelona and wishes him all the best for the future”

Samper has had some awful luck with injuries over recent years but signed a one-year contract extension last summer.

However, he’s made only one appearance this season, in the Copa del Rey win over Cultural Leonesa in October, a game in which he departed early due to injury.

Although it’s not really a surprise to see Samper depart it’s still a shame, let’s wish him all the best for the rest of his career.
