Groningen deny Barcelona have signed Reis, but negotiations are underway
Reports that the deal has been completed are premature
Hans Nijland, CEO of Groningen, has denied reports that Ludovit Reis’s transfer with FC Barcelona has already been agreed. Reports had said a transfer of 2.5 million euro for the 18 year old had been sealed. But the CEO was adamant: “it is not a realistic sum, we will not undersell any player,” he told RTV Noord. “There is no agreement yet, but we are negotiating seriously.”
Barcelona sent a team of negotiators headed by former player José Mari Bakero to the Netherlands to work on the signing.
“I will not discuss the sums that we are handling during negotiations,” Nijland continued, “but I also heard people saying it will be 12 or 14 million, which is also not true.”
The transfer of another Dutch player, Frenkie de Jong, has already been made official. Rumors abound that his Ajax teammate Matthijs de Ligt will also follow him to Barcelona.
