Nike promote Barcelona women’s team as they edge closer to Champions League Final

Barcelona Femení are in pole position to play the final after a 1-0 win over Bayern

FC Barcelona Femení’s UEFA Women’s Champions League run is making noise in the Catalan city. The blaugrana are in a good position to reach the final after a 1-0 win away to Bayern Munich in the semis. With a goal from Kheira Hamraoui, Barcelona have the advantage in the tie and will be playing the second leg at home.

Adding to the atmosphere in the city is a new banner from kit sponsors Nike in the famed Las Ramblas sector, which has a picture of Alexia Putellas. It reads, “don’t play for finals, play for history,” alongside Nike’s “just do it” slogan.

Barça’s rival, should they prevail at the Mini Estadi, will either be Olympique Lyonnais Féminin or Chelsea FC Women. Lyon hold the advantage, having won the first leg 2-1 at home.

Lyon have been the dominant team in women’s football for a while now, reaching the past seven Champions League Finals and winning five of them. They’ve also won the past three in a row.

For comparison, Atlético Madrid, who lead the Spanish league, were eliminated 10-0 on aggregate by Wolfsburg. Wolfsburg themselves were victims to Lyon in the quarters. In addition, Lyon eliminated Barça last season 3-1 on aggregate.

If Barcelona advance past Bayern, it will be their first time in the final. Can they make history?
