The goalkeeping row has taken a new twist

In a strange turn of events, Bayern Munich has threatened to not allow their players to go to the German national team if a certain event happens. That event, believe it or not, is if Marc-Andre ter Stegen takes the place of longtime starter Manuel Neuer.

Bild reported that Uli Hoeness talked to the German FA about the goalkeeper spot and made it clear that replacing Neuer as the first-choice goalkeeper could be dramatic for the team. The report quotes Hoeness as being pretty up front when it came to the goalkeeping choice.

“If that happens, we will no longer release players for the national team.”

HOW INSANE IS THAT. If this is true, Hoeness is either acting independently and doing this, OR Neuer is actually that concerned about the appearance of being benched for Germany. Whatever happens moving forward, this is wild.
