Griezmann’s dream was to play with Messi and Suarez - Diego Costa

The striker has been talking about his former team-mate

Atletico Madrid striker Diego Costa says former team-mate Antoine Griezmann always dreamed of playing with Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez.

The France international snubbed a move to the Camp Nou in 2018 but made the switch in the summer transfer window when Barca activated his €120m buyout clause.

Costa has defended Griezmann’s decision to join the Spanish champions and explained why he wanted to swap Atletico for Barcelona.

“[Griezmann’s] dream was to play with [Lionel] Messi and [Luis] Suarez,” he said.

”As a footballer you always want to test yourself and it is normal that he would want to play there, to see if he can be an important player as he was at Atleti.

”We cannot say anything bad.”

Griezmann hasn’t actually managed to play with Messi or Suarez yet for Barcelona due to injuries to the two attackers.

It’s possible the duo could return for Saturday’s clash against Valencia, although neither has yet returned to full training with the team.
