Barcelona women’s team is the best in Spain, Florentino Peréz says after 9-1 defeat

Barcelona defeated CD Tacón, the team that will become Real Madrid’s women’s section

Florentino Peréz doesn’t like to praise FC Barcelona, but that’s all he could do reflecting on Barça’s women’s section thrashing CD Tacón 9-1. Tacón is a Madrid-based team that Real will take over and is in the process of rebranding as Real’s official women’s team.

The first pseudo Clásico in the women’s game was an incredibly one-sided affair, with the Catalans running rings around the whites.

“The other day, the best team in Spain played against a recently promoted side. On top of that base, we want to construct a good team,” the Real Madrid president mused.

Curiously, FC Barcelona Femení have not won the league in four years. Athletic Club Bilbao and then Atlético Madrid three times have kept the blaugrana from glory.

Peréz played the loss down, insisting Tacón was a modest team that Real Madrid had not officially incorporated yet. He added they would use the team’s considerable resources to create a title-winning team because people have demanded it.

After one round, Barcelona are top of the table with three points and a +8 goal difference.
