The defender is heading back to his club for treatment

France confirmed on Sunday that centre-back Samuel Umtiti has been sent back to Barcelona after picking up a foot injury on international duty.

The defender missed Saturday’s win over Albania with the problem and has also been ruled out of their next game on Tuesday against Andorra.

The world champions have issued a statement on Twitter confirming that Umtiti has now left the national team due to the problem.

“Samuel Umtiti, injured right foot (hematoma), will not be able to participate in Tuesday’s match against Andorra. Umtiti left Clairefontaine at 1:45 pm today. We wish him a good recovery”

The Barcelona defender was not included in the original France squad but was called up after Manchester City’s Aymeric Laporte picked up a serious injury.

It’s not clear how long he will be out for but it is another setback for the defender who is yet to manage a single minute for Barcelona this season.
