The champions made it four La Liga wins in a row

Griezmann, Suarez & Messi starting to click

Barcelona’s attacking trio were all on the scoresheet in the same game for the first time this season against Eibar in a comprehensive win for the champions.

Griezmann’s position out wide on the left is still prompting much debate, but he opened the scoring after latching on to a pass from Lenglet, racing goalwards and tucking the ball past Marko Dmitrovic at his near post.

The Frenchman was also involved in goals for Messi and Suarez too. His neat little touch allowed Messi to stroke home the second, while he sent the Argentine away to set up Suarez for the third.

Ernesto Valverde offered his thoughts on the trio after the match.

“It’s a question of time. The great players always find each other. I think (Griezmann, Suarez and Messi) participated well, worked hard and the goals were their reward. They all got one, the linked well and it’s a question of time that the new player, when the sign, find their place.”

It was an effective performance from Griezmann and one he may have needed after being benched last time out against Sevilla for Ousmane Dembele . Let’s hope it’s a sign of things to come for Barca.

Umtiti makes welcome return, Lenglet steps up

Barcelona were without the suspended Gerard Pique against Eibar and went into the game with a poor record when without their centre-back.

Surprisingly it was Samuel Umtiti who came in to replace Pique, rather than Jean-Clair Todibo, but the Frenchman can be pretty pleased with his first start of the season.

Barcelona have struggled defensively this season and have wobbled away from home, but Umtiti and Lenglet ensured they picked up their third La Liga clean sheet in a row.

Lenglet also picked up his first assist for Barcelona with a long ball to Antoine Griezmann to open the scoring in a very solid display.

De Jong is getting better and better

It wasn’t too long ago that Frenkie de Jong was talking about how he needed to improve his performances for Barcelona following his summer arrival from Ajax.

Fast forward a few weeks and he has certainly done that and then some. Against Eibar he seemed to be just about everywhere, was involved in all of Barca’s best play and was given a warm ovation when he left the pitch.

The win over Eibar was only De Jong’s eighth La Liga start, yet he loooked completely at home in the Barca midfield and is really starting to show why the club were so desperate to bring him in.

The exciting thing is he should improve further as the season progresses and he adapts to life in La Liga. He fully deserved his ovation he received when he went off from the Eibar fans who know quality when they see it.
