Valdes sacked by Barcelona as Juvenil A coach

Franc Artiga will take the former goalkeeper’s place

Barcelona confirmed on Monday that Victor Valdes has been sacked as Juvenil A coach.

Reports emerged on Friday that Valdes was set to leave the club after falling out with director of youth football Patrick Kluivert on a range of topics.

He has now been relieved of his duties and replaced by Juvenil B coach Franc Artiga.

Here’s the club’s brief statement on the matter.

“FC Barcelona has informed Víctor Valdés today that he is no longer coach of Juvenil A. Franc Artiga, until now coach of Juvenil B and in La Masia since 2010, becomes the coach of Juvenil A.”

Valdes was only appointed Juvenil A coach in July on a contract until 2020 with the option of another year, but his coaching stint with the club has ended prematurely.
