Strikers that Barcelona should buy and sell next

Who’s in, who’s out at the Camp Nou?

There could be an awful lot of action in the transfer market as far as Barcelona are concerned, and whilst a ‘clear out’ probably isn’t the best idea, there’s a cogent argument to overhaul the front line.

Let’s see who should be sold and who might be likely replacements...

Antoine Griezmann

I have to be honest, I’ll be sad to see Griezmann depart, because the Frenchman has worked incredibly hard to fit in at the club.

For all of the clamour that he was never wanted in the first place, he’s done more than enough in a position that he’s not used to, to warrant some extra time.

Unfortunately, time isn’t something Barca have at the present moment, and given that Griezmann could still command a decent fee, a sale makes financial sense, if not from a footballing perspective.

Luis Suarez

Thanks for the memories Luis, but it’s time to go.

No one wants to see a player who has played wonderfully well for us for the most part be like the boxer who just has to go one more round.

His goalscoring is acceptable if no longer excellent, but his lack of pace is beginning to mark him out now.

A great pal of Lionel Messi’s he may be, but that holds no sway as far as I’m concerned.

He has neither the numbers or the execution required at this level to justify another season as first choice.

Philippe Coutinho

Like Griezmann before him, Coutinho suffered from not being played in his preferred position.

Shoe-horning someone like the Brazilian into such a role was never going to work, and it was only a matter of time before he was shipped off somewhere else.

Bayern Munich may still be reticent to pay the full asking price for his services, however, there will be a deal to be done if the Bavarians want it.

Absolutely no chance of seeing Coutinho back at Camp Nou again unless it’s with an opponent.

Lautaro Martinez

One of the hottest attacking properties in European football, and with good reason.

Pace, power, physicality and an eye for goal make him a superb all-rounder, and at just 22 years of age, the Argentinian arguably has a decade or so ahead of him at the very top level.

In a team such as Barca, who play a much more expansive game than Inter, he will flourish. Again, forget the Messi connection. Let the player be judged on his merits.

Could quite conceivably establish himself as the world’s best striker with the Blaugranes.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang

Aubameyang will be 31 in June so doesn’t offer the youth that Martinez has on his side, however, his experience and also the hunger at knowing he has three to four seasons at best in which to win the Champions League, makes him a contender for a move at the very least.

Arsenal have provisionally set a £70m price tag for the Gabonese, but that’s likely to come down significantly if the player makes it clear he’s intent on a move away.

A financially attractive move could appeal to the money men, even if such a deal wouldn’t necessarily excite the supporters.
