Barca B beaten by Sabadell, miss out on promotion
A tough night for Garcia Pimienta’s side
Barcelona B missed out on promotion to the Segunda Division A on Sunday after being narrowly beaten 2-1 by Sabadell.
It was a tough night for Francisco Javier García Pimienta’s who also saw Ronald Araujo hobble off with injury late on in the game.
Sabadell had the better of the first half and spurned several chances to open the scoring.
Inaki Pena almost gifted Sabadell the opening goal with a poor pass out of defence but made amends with a good save from Edgar.
Oscar Rubio wasted another chance to open the scoring, stooping to head wide at the far post when completely unmarked.
Pena was then called into action again on 24 minutes, diving to tip Nestor’s shot onto the woodwork to preserve his clean sheet.
Barca B took the lead on 36 minutes through Monchu. The captain swung in a free-kick from the left that beat everyone and sneaked in at the near post.
Yet Sabadell hit straight back at the start of the second half. A corner in from the left was headed on by Alexi Coch and flew into the far corner.
Barca B then wasted a glorious chance to restore their lead minutes later. Rey Manaj did well to wriggle into the area and pull the ball back to Ilaix Moriba to send a shot over the bar.
Sabadell struck the winner on 73 minutes. Edgar played in Nestor down the left, and he produced a delicate finish over Pena to make it 2-1.
Araujo was forced off shortly afterwards in tears after picking up an ankle injury. The Uruguayan tried to continue but was really struggling and looked fairly distraught.
Barca B thought they’d equalized late on when Sergio Akieme fired a low shot home from inside the penalty area only to see it disallowed to seal a disappointing night.
