Ter Stegen on extension talks: “We will see”
The goalkeeper’s contract talks with the club continue to stall
Marc-André ter Stegen is back in Barcelona after enjoying a week-long holiday as the Barça first team begins to get together again and prepare for the Champions League restart, and he was asked by reporters at the airport about his contract extension talks, which have been ongoing for a while now.
Ter Stegen’s response? “We will see”, a vague enough answer to give fans enough reason to worry. Reports say Barça have made it a priority to extend Ter Stegen’s contract during the offseason, but it’s safe to assume the German is a little frustrated with the length and lack of productivity of the talks.
MATS’ deal expires in two years, and with Chelsea reportedly looking really hard at signing a world-class goalkeeper (and every single good German player in the world) this summer, it isn’t beyond the realms of possibility that Ter Stegen could be on his way out if Barça don’t get their act together and pay the man what he deserves.
Let’s be clear here: Ter Stegen is the best goalkeeper on Earth, and he’s at an age where he’s set to dominate the position for at least have a decade. Losing him now could be catastrophic, so Barça should just go ahead and get this done.
