The two sides will meet on Saturday at the Camp Nou

Barcelona have announced they will take on Elche on Saturday in the Joan Gamper Trophy at the Camp Nou.

The two sides were actually due to play on the opening weekend of the new La Liga season but the game was postponed until January due to Barca’s late in finish in 2019-20.

However, Barcelona and Elche will now meet in the club’s traditional season curtain-raiser.

Elche are back in La Liga for the first time in five years after beating Girona 1-0 in the promotion play-off in August. Pere Milla scored a dramatic 96th minute winner to send the team back into the top flight.

The team had actually finished sixth in the Segunda Division, sneaking into the play-off places on the last day of the season after Fuenlabrada had their match with Deportivo La Coruna controversially called off. It was eventually played two weeks later with Fuenlabrada going down 2-1 to the already-relegated team.
