Clubs in Serie A are reportedly lurking

Barcelona boss Ronald Koeman still hasn’t made up his mind about Carles Alena and whether he will stay at the club next season.

According to Sport, the Dutch coach wants more time to check out the midfielder in pre-season training before he makes a final decision.

Alena has only just arrived back for training after having to isolate due to Covid-19 concerns and then headed off for Spain Under-21 international duty.

The midfielder is now back at the club and has the chance to impress Koeman ahead of the new season.

Alena spent the second half of last season on loan at Real Betis and has attracted plenty of admirers “especially from Italy,” according to the report.

Barcelona have already made plenty of changes in midfield with Ivan Rakitic and Arthur leaving, while Arturo Vidal is being tipped to head off shortly too.

Yet competition for places will still be pretty fierce. Miralem Pjanic, Pedri and Francisco Trincao have all arrived and Alena will have his work cut out finding regular game time.
