So far, it’s only been in a friendly, though

Konrad de la Fuente became the first American to play for FC Barcelona’s senior team in a match, to the delight of US-based publications. The 19-year-old winger has represented the US at youth level and may be in for a call-up for the senior team soon.

He took part in a friendly against GimnĂ stic de Tarragona, which Barcelona won 3-1.

The Miami-born player had already trained with the senior team last season after becoming a fixture for the club’s B team, but he had not taken the pitch as part of the senior team until that game.

CBS, the Miami Herald, and Sports Illustrated were just some of the American outlets to note the achievement.

Konrad was born in the US to Haitian parents. He moved to Barcelona at a young age, as his father worked in the Haitian consulate in Spain. He began playing for local CF Damm before joining La Masia at around 12 years old. He’s worked himself up through the Barcelona ranks ever since.

Now, it remains to be seen when he can earn his debut in an official match with Barcelona.
