Only a few players are considered un-transferable

FC Barcelona are looking to change the squad massively for the upcoming season, and for that reason, very few players are considered “untouchable.” The majority are either on the market, or could be given the right circumstances.

Up to 10 players are “for sale,” according to Diario SPORT: Neto, Samuel Umtiti, Junior Firpo, Miralem Pjanić, Riqui Puig, Philippe Coutinho, Matheus, Antoine Griezmann, Martin Braithwaite, and Ousmane Dembélé.

In Dembélé’s case, Barça would sell if he does not renew his contract rather than lose him on a free transfer. Griezmann could stay, particularly if Lionel Messi does not renew his deal.

Speaking of Messi, he is unsurprisingly one of the players that Barcelona want to keep at all costs. In addition Marc-André ter Stegen, Óscar Mingueza, Ronald Araujo, Pedri, Frenkie de Jong, Ansu Fati, and Ilaix Moriba are sure to stay.

Then come four players who are academy players, and in some cases, captains, long-time starters, and / or club legends: Gerard Piqué, Jordi Alba, Sergio Busquets, and Sergi Roberto. The club does want to keep them, but not at any price. They will offer a “sensible” salary reduction. If the players agree, they will stay, but otherwise, Barcelona will look to move them - and their hefty salaries - on.

However, in most cases, the players have long enough contracts that they do not need to agree to either a wage reduction nor a sale. We shall see what happens.

Finally, there is a final group - Sergiño Dest, Francisco Trincão, and Clément Lenglet. The club apparently is not sure what to do with these players. Dest has been a key piece for Ronald Koeman, but the possible arrival of a new manager or that of Emerson could change things. Trincão could stay, despite not playing too much, particularly if Dembélé leaves. Finally, Lenglet might not leave, but Barcelona are said to be open to offers and would be willing to part with him in the right situation.
