Red-hot Memphis Depay bags Netherlands hat-trick
The Dutch go top of the group
Memphis Depay is really enjoying his football right now and was the star of the show as the Netherlands thumped Turkey 6-1 in World Cup qualifying on Tuesday.
The Barcelona summer signing needed just one minute to get the Oranje up and running by providing an assist for Davy Klaassen to open the scoring.
Klaassen then returned the favor on 16 minutes with a great flick for Memphis to latch on to and then dispatch a brilliant finish past the goalkeeper.

There was more to come from Memphis too before the half-time break. Netherlands won a penalty when Klaassen was tripped by Caglar Soyuncu which offered Memphis another chance to score.
The Barcelona forward made no mistake at all from the spot, netting with a cheeky Panenka to make it 3-0 and effectively end the game as a contest.

Memphis’s goal also inadvertently helped Barcelona out as it allowed Louis van Gaal the chance to rest Frenkie de Jong at half-time. The midfielder came off and was replaced by Teun Koopmeiners for the second 45.
The Dutch kept on scoring in the second half. Memphis ensured he went home with the match ball by netting his third from close range to make it 4-0 on 54 minutes. It’s the forward’s first ever international hat-trick and moves him level on goals for the Netherlands with a certain Barcelona legend.

The hosts added a couple more late on to seal a big win. Guus Til made it 5-0 with his first international goal with 10 minutes to go, while Donyell Malen added a sixth in the 90th minute before Cengiz Under grabbed a consolation in stoppage time.
It’s a great result for the Netherlands who go top of the group with four games to go, while Memphis takes home the match ball and will now turn his thoughts to the visit of Bayern Munich in the Champions League.
