The Dutchman’s contract expires in 2022

Ronald Koeman has been talking about his future at Barcelona and has made it clear he is keen to stay on at the Camp Nou.

The Dutchman is into the second year of his current deal at the club and there have already been whispers he could be offered a new deal.

Koeman says he’s excited about the future and is hoping he can carry on as coach for a good few more years in an interview with Diario Sport that will be published in full on Wednesday.

“Yes, of course, I’m open to renewal. I’ll be excited to continue as coach for many years, despite the complicated things that exist at the club today,” he said.

“But I think all that thanks to our decisions, coaches and the technical staff. Barça has young players with a huge immediate future and hopefully in three, four or five years I can continue to be their coach.”

President Joan Laporta was also asked about Koeman’s future in his interview with TV3 on Monday and confirmed he had already spoken to the Dutchman about an extension.

“Koeman has all my support, my respect and all the confidence so that he can work as comfortably as possible. We have already spoken a couple of times with Rob Jansen, his agent, so we are talking.

“I told the coach that he has to be strong, he cannot be in the weak position of ending the contract, so I raised the possibility of extending the contract.”

It’s been reported that Laporta has already set out some conditions that Koeman must fulfil if he is to stay on past the end of the current campaign.
