Some big praise from the club chief

Joan Laporta has showered praise on Hansi Flick and says the new Barcelona boss is doing an “extraordinary job” at the club.

Flick has certainly got his team off to a strong start. The Catalans currently top La Liga and enjoyed a 5-0 win over Young Boys in the Champions League in midweek.

The German’s team have also been fun to watch, meaning Laporta is a happy man at the moment.

“Flick is not looking for excuses, injuries are an inconvenience but he is overcoming it very well. Some important players are recovering and we are waiting for the return of De Jong, who has already played a few minutes, Fermín, Dani Olmo, Gavi,” he told reporters.

“The calendar forces us to have competitive and large squads. I think that the incorporation of players from the academy is giving good results. Flick is doing an extraordinary job, he knew what he had and he is managing it very well.

“He was brought in by our director of football and the sports commission decided that he had to be our coach. Deco already told me that he was confident that it would work well, that we had to give a new impetus. It was decided that it would be Hansi Flick and Hansi knows that the best times of Barça are when we have had many young players in the squad. He is a student of Barça, a passionate one.”

Flick has given his players a couple of days off after the midweek win. Barca are back in action on Sunday against Alaves in their final La Liga fixture before the international break.
