Dani Alves on Supercup: "Athletic competed better, they deserved to win"

After two games in four days, one thing is clear: Athletic Bilbao fully deserved to win the Spanish Supercup against Barcelona. Los Leones played better and were more efficient on both matches, and that's coming for one Barça player.

Blaugrana full-back Dani Alves, who himself had two subpar performances on the tie, talked to the media after the second leg at Camp Nou, and the Brazilian gave the champions all the credit, and did not try to find excuses for his team's loss.

"Athletic competed better than we did. They deserved to win and that’s why I congratulate them.

"Perhaps we didn’t get enough things right in the two games. Perhaps we didn’t compete as hard we can. We paid the price for the European Super Cup match, and didn’t have much time to prepare … There were all those things but there is no place for excuses.

"Piqué was furious about the situation. The referee made a deision that did us damage, but that was no excuse either."
