Luis Suarez knows about keeping the faith. After Barça’s late victory over Bayer Leverkusen the striker said he knew all along, that the team knew, deep down inside, that they would pull it out. And they were right.

"We believed in ourselves until the end because we are the European champions. We had to prove it, and we had plenty of chances but couldn’t until the end," he said after the game.

"The most important thing was to win, especially being at home," said Suárez, who scored the game-winner in the 82nd minute.

What about Bayer? "We knew they were pressing us like at Celta. At halftime the coach told us some things that you don’t see in the field, and we changed."

Here are the highlights from what some of the other players said after the game:

Sergi Roberto:

"I’m playing more at the beginning of this season. I feel great physically and I’m trying to give my best to help the team."

"It’s probably the most important goal I’ve scored, because we were behind and it allowed us to tie the game."

"At halftime we stuck together because we knew that we’d succeed. We tweaked our tactics, maybe they were tired too because they pressed very well. With the fans’ help we did it."

Sandro Ramirez:

"We have to stay together. Our desire to win is what gave us the match.”

"Playing at Camp Nou weighs on you, but I’m relaxed because I work as hard as I can and we have confidence in ourselves."
