Ernesto Valverde Has Backing From the Players and President - Report
But there was an attempted “coup d’état” against him
More news about Ernesto Valverde’s future at FC Barcelona, this time from Diario SPORT. In an article by Dídac Peyret, we are told that both the dressing room and club president Josep Maria Bartomeu support the coach. In a separate article, Ernest Folch complains that some unnamed actors attempted a “coup d’état” against the Barcelona boss.
Peyret writes that the players were happy to win one for the manager as they thrashed Sevilla 5-0 in the Copa del Rey final. Not only that, but the players thought the exit from the Champions League was something in which both players and coach were partly to blame. And perhaps even more importantly, Bartomeu is said to be pleased with the domestic double, which is all but assured at this point.
“Although it seems incredible, there were echoes of strange subterranean movements to move the coach’s chair hours before [the cup final],” writes Folch. It’s unclear just who this is supposed to be, but perhaps its certain members of the Barcelona board.
“Valverde is not only in no danger,” after the cup final, Folch says, “but he comes out stronger and with all the power to design a second project that will let him avoid another cataclysm like there was against AS Roma.”
