Frenkie de Jong agrees terms with PSG, Barcelona not out of the race yet - report

Barcelona may not be paying the agents enough

Frenkie de Jong has agreed terms with Paris Saint-Germain, although a deal with Ajax is not finalized, according to Paris United. The midfielder has been linked with a switch to FC Barcelona but that may not come to fruition, and instead, PSG may pay 75 million euro to bring him to France.

Mundo Deportivo reports that De Jong’s agent, Ali Dursum, prefers signing with PSG since it will offer him a bigger payday. If De Jong signs with PSG, despite reportedly agreeing with Barcelona first, the Catalans might need to rethink their stance towards agents. According to the report, a similar thing happened with Matthijs de Ligt and his agent, Mino Raiola.

Francesc Aguilar, who writes for MD, says that a “personal friend” of De Jong’s, tells him that the player has doubts about the offer from Barça. Not just due to economic factors, but also because he was not sold on the project presented to him by Éric Abidal in Amsterdam. There’s a lot of midfielders already at Barcelona, and the problem could be compounded with the prospect of Adrien Rabiot’s arrival.

This friend supposedly told Aguilar that it’s not clear who will land the young midfielder, but that PSG are in pole position. Téléfoot also reported that De Jong prefers PSG, but that City and Barça are still in the race. The cost for him will be around 70 or 80 million euro.
