Bartomeu says Barcelona ‘fully trust’ Valverde

The president also praised Valverde’s intelligence

Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu has once again backed manager Ernesto Valverde and praised the way he is managing the team with “respect and with intelligence.”

Valverde’s position has come under scrutiny after Barcelona’s humiliating Champions League exit at Liverpool.

Bartomeu has since stated that Valverde is the manager the club want in charge and has now followed that up with more praise.

“I want to point out how in a discreet way, with respect and with intelligence, [he] is managing our team and the progressive incorporation of new values. I am referring to Ernesto Valverde, whom we trust fully,” he said.

“We’ve won LaLiga again by a superior margin: three games before the end of the season, 11 points ahead of second place and 19 ahead of third. Winning the league is an extraordinary achievement. Let them say what they want as they try to undervalue that.”

Valverde is on course to do the double for a second year in row but his position is far from secure after another failure in Europe.

Meanwhile, Bartomeu’s latest comments will not go down well with supporters already frustrated with Valverde after painful European defeats to Roma and Liverpool.
