Barcelona’s preseason tour of Japan continues with a heartwarming reunion. The blaugrana today reunited with some old friends as they are set to play Vissel Kobe in a friendly.
Former Barcelona players Andrés Iniesta, David Villa, and Sergi Samper, who now play in the J-League, exchanged hugs with Barça players - including some new faces.

Iniesta captained Barça and is a legendary figure for the club, Meanwhile Villa was part of the legendary 2011 team that won the UEFA Champions League. He’s also known for his exploits as part of the Spanish national team, where he was teammates with a few current Barcelona players. Finally, Samper is an academy graduate whose time in the first team was cut short due to successive injuries.
For some, like Gerard Piqué and Sergio Busquets, it’s a reunion with a few life-long friends. Others only played with one or two of them, and sometimes only briefly. For example, Ivan Rakitić didn’t play with Villa, but he did come to know Iniesta well and spent time with Samper. Malcom, for example, never coincided with Villa or Iniesta, but he did play with Samper before he left last season.
Antoine Griezmann, who is a new signing, did not play with any of them, but he’s surely met some of them over the years. But this might be the first time ever that Frenkie de Jong met any of them, and hence this picture, which could become iconic:
