De Jong says joining Barca was an ‘easy decision’

The midfielder says the team’s style of play suits him

Barcelona new signing Frenkie de Jong says deciding to move to the Camp Nou from Ajax was a pretty easy decision.

The Netherlands international has penned a five-year deal with the Spanish champions and spoke about how he was convinced to make the switch.

“My dream has always been to be an FC Barcelona player, so the decision to come here was very easy. I’m very happy and very proud,” he said.

”When the president, Josep Maria Bartomeu, came to Holland expressly to see me, it showed that they believed a lot in me. They told me that I would be a very important player for the club.

”Holland and Barça have always had a good connection, and Barça and Ajax have a very similar way of playing, with the philosophy of Johan Cruyff. Ajax and Barça want to play in the same way, and that’s great for me.”

De Jong is an exciting signing for Barcelona after playing a starring role for Ajax last season, and we will hopefully get to see him in action for the club for the first team during pre-season.
