It’s been a great transfer window so far for Barcelona

But there is still work to do

Long before the current transfer window opened for business, if you’d told any Cule that Frenkie de Jong and Antoine Griezmann would’ve formed part of the 2019/20 squad, they’d have probably laughed at the ridiculousness of it.

In the Frenchman’s case, despite the obvious frostiness towards him, he remains a world-class player who will improve any side. Make no mistake, we’re lucky to have him.

Let’s face it, there aren’t too many players around who could actually improve what we already have, but the World Cup winner is one of them, and what he brings to Barca’s front line next season is likely to allow Lionel Messi even more freedom.

Luis Suarez might even get a new lease of life if Griezmann takes on board certain aspects of his workload. Let him get back to what he does best, scoring goals.

Frenkie has ‘superstar’ written all over him. So young but oh so talented.

Injuries permitting, he is destined to become a fixture in the Blaugrana midfield for years. His footballing intelligence belies his age, and he has no fear. He is a game changer who is willing to take a match by the scruff of the neck and drag everyone along with him.

Dynamic, strong and with a keen eye for a pass, he is made for this club. Given the ever-escalating prices for Europe’s best, his hire will surely soon be seen as a bargain.

Losing Jasper Cillessen was a blow, but not unexpected, and in Neto, the Catalans have a more than capable back-up. As with the Dutchman, the former Valencia man won’t give supporters nightmares when he acts as stand-in. Gone are the Pinto’s of this world.

Talking of back-up players, Marc Cucurella, recently re-purchased from Eibar for a paltry €4m, should be given the chance of giving Jordi Alba a run for his money, however, it seems highly likely that Barca will sell him on again at a profit.

Matthijs de Ligt may be off the radar now, but it could prove to be a blessing, at least in the interim period.

Jean-Clair Todibo will be afforded more opportunities this season, giving him a chance to blossom into the defender that everyone knows he can become - and potentially saving Barca millions in the process.

However, seeing De Ligt at the Camp Nou in 12 months time wouldn’t be a surprise.

Neymar’s possible return has split the fan base down the middle. Off-field activities and accusations, allied to the way in which he left two years ago, continue to leave a sour taste.

Financially it will probably cripple the club, but... a Barcelona with Neymar in it, compared to one sans the Brazilian... no contest.
