Tite tells Lionel Messi to ‘ have more respect’

The Brazil boss says the Barcelona star must accept defeat

Brazil boss Tite said Lionel Messi needs to have more respect and accept defeat after the Argentina captain let fly with his comments after his team’s exit from the Copa America.

Messi was harshly sent off in Argentina’s third-place win over Chile on Saturday and complained after the game about poor refereeing throughout the tournament.

Tite’s side beat Peru 3-1 on Sunday to lift the trophy for the first time since 2007 and was critical of Messi after the win.

“He has to have more respect and needs to accept when he loses,” he said.

“You have to have a little more respect and be careful. We played clean against Argentina. Messi was unfairly sent off against Chile. It was a yellow card. But be careful.”

Meanwhile, reports in Spain have claimed that Messi could face a lengthy ban, possibly up to two years, for his outspoken comments after his red card.
