Messi was impressed by Ansu ‘the first day I saw him train’
The teenager made an instant impression on the GOAT
Lionel Messi has been talking about Barcelona starlet Ansu Fati and says the 16-year-old impressed him the first time he saw him in training.
Ansu has made an impact at Barcelona in the early weeks of the season. He became the club’s youngest ever La Liga goalscorer in the 2-2 draw against Osasuna and marked his first senior start with a goal and an assist against Valencia.
Messi spoke about the youngster on Monday after winning FIFA’s The Best Men’s Player of the Year Award in Milan.
“I was impressed by him the first day I saw him train,” he said.
”Then he was playing with us, he has great quality. We need to go little by little with him and not put pressure on him.
”We must help him and go slowly so that the buzz around him doesn’t prevent him from growing, as he has what it takes to be a great player.”

Ansu is likely to see less game time now Lionel Messi, Ousmane Dembele and Luis Suarez are fit again but has still kept his place in the squad for Tuesday’s clash against Villarreal.
