Barca send the right MSG at Eibar

Another valuable three points for the champions

It’s taken a little while for it to gel, but the triple threat that Barcelona’s MSG front three provide when on song will take some beating.

Despite a shaky opening few minutes at Ipurua, the match ended in another comfortable victory for Barca against a team to whom they’ve never lost.

Not that such a fact should take away from what was a solid all-round performance, underscored by the finishing prowess of Messrs. Suarez, Griezmann and Messi.

The win also took the visitors to the summit of the La Liga table for the first time this season, another small fact that really shouldn’t be ignored, given their start to 2019/20.

Once again, Barca are beginning to look like a smooth, well-oiled machine, and that can only spell danger to their opponents.

In this kind of form, it’s a real shame that El Clasico won’t take place next Saturday as planned, because you’d have been hard pressed to find anyone willing to bet against a Barca win.

As it is, let’s bask in the after glow of another job well done. A match in which we saw just how capable the strikers can be, and can appreciate the evolution of their understanding as an attacking unit.

Suarez and Messi have no problem with their associative play of course, so a doff of the cap in Griezmann’s direction is due.

An intelligent player, but one who freely admitted that he would need to adapt his game to fit into what Barcelona are trying to achieve, the Frenchman is beginning to find his range in front of goal and is working as hard as any other player in the team.

If he wants to impress his team-mates and cules generally, then he’s certainly going about things the right way.

As is another new signing, Frenkie de Jong.

The Dutchman was so good that even the Eibar supporters gave him an ovation when he was substituted.

Along with Arthur, De Jong is quickly becoming the conduit through which much of Barca’s good work passes through.

Seeing Samuel Umtiti back in business can only be another positive for Ernesto Valverde too, and it’s down to the French centre-back to once again try and cement a place in the back four, at the expense of either Clement Lenglet or Gerard Pique.

Competition for places is healthy but not something Barca have had too much of in the recent past, particularly at centre-back.

All in all, it was a great day’s work and the right MSG as far as the supporters will be concerned.
