The former captain also spoke about Victor Valdes’ sacking

Carles Puyol has been talking about why he decided to turn down the offer of becoming Barcelona’s new sporting director.

The former skipper was expected to return to Barca this year and replace Pep Segura but announced in September he had decided not to accept the club’s offer.

Puyol has now expanded a little on his decision to turn down the job and also offered his thoughts on Victor Valdes’ sacking as Juvenil A boss.

“I’m at a vital moment, developing projects. One will come out soon and it’s with Danone, related to football and values. It’s an online programme for parents who want to spend time with their kids. This is one of the projects that saw me reject the proposal because I’m excited about them.

“Victor has a lot to teach the kids. I don’t know the reasons for his exit but I’m sure he’ll be a great coach. It’s not easy to be a coach at youth level because people only look at results. What’s important is the formation of the player both on the pitch and emotionally.”

Valdes was sacked at the start of October after just couple of months in the job after reportedly clashing with Patrick Kluivert and has been replaced by Franc Artiga.
