Lyon president plays down Memphis to Barca rumors

Nations League, The Netherlands v Italy

Another update on the latest transfer saga

Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas has played down speculation Barcelona are closing in on a move for Memphis Depay.

A report from the Netherlands claimed Barca have agreed to pay €25 million for the forward and could even unveil him later this week.

Yet Aulas has taken to Twitter in response to the report with the following message:

“The president of Barça told me on Sunday that Barça was suffering a lot from the Covid crisis and had no possibility of making an offer.”

It’s no secret that Barca have been hit financially hard by the coronavirus pandemic. ESPN have even reported Covid-19 has cost Barca €300 million so far.

It looks as though Barca must sell before they can bring in any new players but that is not proving to be an easy task, so far only Ivan Rakitic has left for a nominal fee.

Arturo Vidal is expected to be next out of the door, although a rumored move to Juventus for Luis Suarez appears to have broken down.
