Messi taking on less ‘goal obsessed’ role at Barcelona

The captain isn’t just all about goals

Lionel Messi and amazing goals is what you think of when you think of modern day Barcelona. The Argentinian magician is most known for taking on ridiculous goal-scoring opportunities and somehow succeeding.

For this version of Barcelona to be successful, Messi can’t be the main vocal scoring threat late in games. Barca are used to relying on Messi late in games for miracles, that can’t be the case anymore and Messi knows that.

“Today I am less obsessed with goals, I try to contribute as much as I can to the team effort.”

Messi may not be as obsessed but he still finished last season as La Liga’s top scorer with 25 goals. Perhaps more interestingly he also broke the league’s record for assists, finishing up top of the pile with 21.
