The Frenchman’s current deal expires in 2022

Barcelona are reportedly keen to extend Ousmane Dembele’s contract but haven’t made much progress on a renewal as yet.

According to Mundo Deportivo, the club want Dembele’s future secured before he enters the final year of his current deal which expires in 2022.

Barca are said to be working on a new contract but have not made an offer yet, while the Frenchman is not too concerned about his future right now and is focused on staying fit.

Ansu Fat’s injury means that Dembele’s importance to the squad has increased and it seems there is no chance at all he will be allowed to leave the Camp Nou in January.

Manchester United were said to be interested in the summer, but Barca don’t expect any clubs to be able to meeting their asking price this winter because of the impact Covid-19 has had on football finances.

MD reckon that Dembele’s future will be one of the top priorities of the club’s new president and board. Elections are expected to be take place at the end of January.

The new board will therefore have around six months to try and secure Dembele’s future before he enters the final year of his contract at the Camp Nou.
