Messi shares message on Mascherano’s retirement
The captain has some words for his former team-mate
Lionel Messi and Javier Mascherano were teammates for years. The pair played together on the Argentine national team and at Barcelona.
They were always an interesting duo to pay attention to purely because of the time they spent together. Hearing Mascherano’s takes on Messi and vice-versa was always something to note.
Mascherano retired this week and his old buddy Messi posted on Facebook with some nice words about his former teammate and also Fernando Gago who has also hung up his boots. Touching stuff.
“They leave football two people I lived with and enjoyed a lot of time and I want to take advantage to say hello to them: Fer dear hope everything goes great for you. From the 17 years we met... It was a pleasure to share locker room in the national team and compete against you, you know that. May everything continue well and continue to fulfill your dreams. And what to say about Masche, so many years together, seeing each other every day and sharing so much... We live very happy moments and also some tough ones on the court in both Argentina and Barcelona. We’ve been missing you since you left. Wishing you all the best for you and your family always!”

Messi’s not the only Barca player to pay tribute to Mascherano. A host of other players past and present have also sent messages to the Argentine.
