VAR audio of De Jong’s challenge on Vitor Roque released

Interesting stuff
Audio of the VAR chat that took place after Frenkie de Jong’s challenge on Vitor Roque during Barcelona’s draw with Betis has been released by the RFEF.
Betis were awarded a spot-kick for the challenge by the Dutchman on Barca’s loanee after a VAR check, as match referee Muniz Ruiz did not initially give the decision.
However, Ruiz was then invited to go and check the pitchside monitor by VAR Pizarro Gómez.
“I recommend a review please so that you can assess a possible penalty action,” Ruiz was told after the incident.

Ruiz went over to check and said he felt the initial battle between the two was not enough for a penalty but then spotted that De Jong had also made contact with Vitor Roque’s foot.
”The struggle up front is not enough, that’s what I’ve valued. But there is indeed contact of the boot,” he said.
Ruiz then went on to add he did not think the foul was a “reckless action” and so would show De Jong a yellow card only and not a red.
