The Napoli star has attracted the two megaclubs

Barcelona and Real Madrid are ready to fight a “war” over Fabián Ruiz, according to Mundo Deportivo. The Napoli star has seen a meteoric rise to his stock in the past few years, and it seems that the megaclubs have taken note.

Barça’s interest has been an open secret ever since Eric Abidal was spotted scouting the player at a Napoli match. How invested the Madrid club is... that’s harder to pin down.

It is said that Madrid sees him as an alternative should the signings of Paul Pogba (Manchester United) and/or Christian Eriksen (Tottenham Hotspur) fall through. But there’s also the suspicion that Madrid’s main objective is simply to drive up the price to make life harder for Barça.

The report states Ruiz is aware of both clubs’ interest, so it is possible for him play them off each other and see who offers the best deal.

Napoli had reportedly tried to extend his contract, which currently runs until 2023, last summer. However, no agreement was reached. Ruiz is said to be valued at over 60 million euros.

A Spanish international, he arrived at the Italian club from Real Betis for 30 million.
