Gossip: Ter Stegen and Arthur ‘on the market’
Could the duo really leave this summer?
Barcelona goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen and midfielder Arthur are both reportedly “on the market” ahead of the summer transfer window.
According to El Periodico, the Spanish champions could sell both players even though the two have both previously been described as “untouchable” by other reports.
The newspaper claims Barca don’t want to see Ter Stegen leave but have had to halt contract talks and are aware that’s likely to fuel interest from Europe’s top clubs.
There’s also the financial implications to take into consideration at a tricky time due to the coronavirus pandemic. Renewing Ter Stegen would mean a big hike to his salary.
Arthur is also attracting interest plenty of interest, particularly from Italy, although it’s worth pointing out he’s already said thanks but no thanks to Inter Milan.
Barcelona are said to view the midfielder’s performances in his second season at the Camp Nou as “satisfactory” but there are doubts over his frequent muscle injuries.
El Periodico claim Barca are considering using him as part of a deal to bring in Lautaro Martinez but would also consider including him in a swap to sign another midfielder.
